Piikani Resource Development Ltd (PRDL) have been entrusted by the Piikani people to help secure economic security for this First Nation community through careful management and development of resources on tribal land. A new utility-scale wind generation (link to case study) project promises to drive this economic development.
PRDL called upon Truescape’s proven abilities as visual storytellers , not just to explain the technicalities of the project but to demonstrate how they would balance their responsibilities to the Piikani of the past, and the future.
PRDL seeks to step lightly on the land, and Truescape adopted the same approach in creating this visualization – simple graphics, clear key words and key data, a focus on values and integration of the Piikani culture.
The inherited ancestral, spiritual and physical story of the Piikani combines images of the past, representations of the wind and spirit of the land, and photos of the Piikani people today.
A future vision of the current landscape incorporates wind turbines, effectively demonstrating how current activities, such as ranching and grazing – and Idaowisi, the Piikani Nation land itself – will experience minimal impact from this development.
The resulting visualization reinforces the research and consideration that has gone into every aspect of this project, from planning, through its 30-year operation, and to its end-of-life transition.
Truescape crafted a video story that presents a vision of opportunity and security for the Piikani people, balances by reassurance that this development will honor and protect their land, culture and history.
In summary, PRDL were able to:
- Provide a clear vision for securing economic security
- Reassure the Piikani of the minimal impact on the land, and all who live on it
- Demonstrate their ability to successfully steward the economic resources of the Piikani whilst safeguarding their culture and shared values.
