The Los Bronces Copper expansion project, high in the Chilean mountains, will enable the development of hard-to-reach mineral resources, without impacting on the biodiversity of nearby Los Nogales Sanctuary.
This project epitomises Anglo American’s reimagined approach to mining, but because new ways of doing things are unfamiliar, they can be misunderstood.
Anglo American engaged Truescape to correct misconceptions based on assumptions and fear of the unknown, and prove how their approach could actually work with, and within, the existing natural environment.
Truescape’s answer was a video visualization that explained, and demonstrated, this complex project in easy-to-understand terms. They began by clearly articulating Anglo American’s guiding principles for the Los Bronces expansion, then walked viewers through the delivery of those principles.
Images of the current operation were overlaid with clear projections of the intended expansions, both above and below ground. Importantly, physical distances between all stages of operation and protected areas, including glaciers, becomes clear.
In less than four minutes it becomes apparent how the current open pit will be augmented with a new underground mine. It is clear to see how Anglo American’s careful planning, use of existing infrastructure, and innovative approaches (already proven effective in other countries), will avoid surface disruption, earth instability, and use of additional natural resources such as freshwater.
Seeing is believing, and this visualization allows viewers to see exactly how Anglo American will deliver on its promises.
